---Turn off/on Eye Button on Windows 8
The "View Password" feature is enabled on Windows 8 by default. However, you have 2 options to disable it or enable it anew. Please read on for the detailed steps.
::Where are "View Password" Buttons (AKA: "Eye Button") ?
On the Windows login screen or IE password box, type your password and the eye icon will comes out on the right. At this point, you can click and hold the eye icon to view the real login password. To be clear, our "View Password" Button is called "Password Reveal" Button by Microsoft. (see screenshot below)
::How to disable or enable "View Password" on Windows 8?
If you just want to disable this new feature of Windows 8, it‘s just a piece of cake. To disable password reveal button using local group policy editor (LGPE):
->Press Windows logo key and X key to activate Win + X menu
-> Open Command Prompt <admin>
-> Type "gpedit.msc" or "gpedit" and hit Enter to execute the command line. (see screenshot below)
-> Afterwards, browse to: Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Credential User Interface
-> In the right pane, click on Do not display the password reveal button (As you can see in the following picture, the state is "Not configured" now.) and click the shown up policy setting text link.
->On the next screen, select "Enabled" if you don’t want to see the eye button any longer. On the contrary, choose (dot) Disable or Not configured if you would like to remain original. (see screenshot below)
-> Lastly, click OK to save and apply the changes.
::Disable password reveal button using registry editor
In addition, you can also disable password reveal button using registry editor. Below are the steps:
1. To get started, press Windows + X keyboard shortcut and then click or tap on Command Prompt (Admin).
2. Input "regedit" and hit Enter
3. Once the Registry Editor is open, just press Ctrl + F key combination to show Find dialog box (or Edit -> Find) -> type "CredUI" in the Find What text box, check the Keys checkbox and then click or tap on Find Next. (see screenshot below)
4. In the right-hand pane, right click on some empty area -> expand New -> select DWORD (32bit) Value -> name the new value to "DisablePasswordReveal" -> double click it and set its Value data to "1" Note: To enable the View Password button, set its value to "o" instead. (see screenshot below)
5. Finally close the Registry Editor window. Good job, you have disabled the eye button successfully.
